India and Indonesia on Tuesday signed 29 agreements including Extradition Treaty. These include agreements in the field of oil and natural gas, science and technology, legal assistance, media, Micro, small and medium enterprises and education, mining, infrastructure and manufacturing. The business deals are worth 15.1 billion US Dollars. The agreements were signed in New Delhi on Tuesday morning following delegation level talks between the visiting President of Indonesia Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. The most important treaty on extradition and mutual legal assistance will go a long way in expanding cooperation in combating terror, money laundering and exchange of information on criminal activities. Indonesia is India’s third largest trading partner in ASEAN and bilateral trade is targeted at 25 billion US Dollars by 2015. Indonesia operationalized the Free Trade Agreement on 1st of October last year. Following the agreements, India and Indonesia are poised to reshaping their ties at the economic and strategic levels. Addressing captains of the Indian industry later in the day, the visiting dignitary invited them to invest in Indonesia. Speaking on the occasion, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said there are huge opportunities available for businessmen of both the countries.Mr. Yudhoyono arrived in New Delhi on Monday on a three day state visit. He will be the Chief Guest on the occasion of the Republic Day celebrations on Wednesday. Mr. Yudhoyono will also call on the President Mrs. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil. The Vice-President, EAM, Leader of the Opposition and the Chairperson of the UPA will call on the visiting dignitary. Mrs Patil will host a State Banquet in honour of the Indonesian President on Tuesday evening.
