India and Indonesia have decided not to undertake exchange of notes to formalise the extradition treaty as the agreement is already in force. Talking to media persons in Jakarta yesterday, MEA Secretary (East) Anil Wadhwa said, it was felt by the two sides that there was no need to exchange letters as part of completing formalities. He said, the issue of extradition of Chhota Rajan did not appear during the bilateral talks between Vice President Hamid Ansari and his counterpart Jusuf Kalla. He said the legal proceedings are underway to deport underworld don Chhota Rajan to India.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, Indian police team yesterday for the first time questioned underworld don Chhota Rajan and officials believe that he could be deported to India from Indonesia in a day or two. <br/><br/>Rajan, is expected to be produced before a court soon where the Indonesian police will submit details of the cases for which he is wanted in India. Quoting an Indonesian offical, PTI reports, if Rajan's lawyer does not oppose his deportation, he will be handed over to Indian police team, and this process may take a day or two.<br/><br/>However, if lawyer opposes his deportation, the process may get longer.<br/>The gangster was arrested in Bali upon arrival from Australia on 25th of October. Indian police team has been working with their Indonesian counterparts to take over his custody as early as possible. The Indian team, comprising officers from CBI, Mumbai and Delhi police, reached Bali on Sunday with a detailed dossier on Rajan and his involvement in various crimes in India.
