India, Indonesia ink pacts on energy, culture exchange

Stregthening ties with its maritime neighbor,India today signed two keys MoUs with Indonesia. The agreements on New and Renewable Energy sector and Cultural Exchange were inked in the presence of Vice President Md Hamid Ansari and his counterpart Jusuf Kala after their bilateral talks in Jakarta today. AIR correspondent reports that Mr. Ansari, who is on a five day two nation visit, also addressed a joint press conference with Mr Kala.<br/>The Vice President said that India and Indonesia are committed to increase bilateral trade and mutual investments as well as expanding cooperation in defence and counter-terrorism. Mr. Ansari said that the two countries were keen to expand cooperation in the energy sector, including non-conventional energy sector. <br/><br/>Later,Vice President Md Ansari called on Indonesian President. He also met foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and the ruling party Chairperson Megha Sukarnoputri. He also addressed a public gathering here. The Vice President will leave for Bali tomorrow.

India and Indonesia has signed two agreements on new and renewable sources of energy and cultural exchange. The agreements were signed in the presence of vice-president Hamid Ansari and his Indonesian counterpart Jusuf Kala after their talks in Jakarta. Addressing media after the bilateral talks, Mr Ansari who is on a five day two nation visit, said both the sides discussed on a range of issues including expanding cooperation in defence, counter terrorism and trade.Describing Indonesia as a strategic partner, he said both countries are embarking upon a phase of rapid economic progress. The MoU on New and Renewable Energy sector was signed between Indonesian water resources and mineral minister and Indian ambassador to Indonesia. <br/><br/>The cooperation is important as both India and Indonesia have committed themselves to reduce carbon emissions by thirty five percent and twenty nine percent respectively by 2030. However the much anticipated exchange of notes on the extradition treaty between the two countries could not happen. The MEA sources said that there are legal formalities which needed to be completed by the Indonesian side. Replying to a question on the extradition of Chhota Rajan, Md Rajan said, the deportation is being dealt with by concerned agencies and they are getting active support from the Indonesian side.
