The key domestic indices ended with gains today amidst a positive trend in the US stock markets and investors' optimism with respect to stable US interest rates.
The Sensex rose 276 points, or 0.42 percent, to close at 65,931. The Nifty added 89 points, or 0.45 percent, to settle at 19,783.
In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index rose 0.14 percent and the Small-cap index added 0.20 percent.
In the Sensex Index, which is a pack of 30 companies, shares of 18 companies appreciated while those of 12 companies declined. JSW Steel rose 1.8 percent. Tata Steel and Titan, both gained around 1.4 percent. Reliance added 1.2 percent.
On the other hand, Tech Mahindra declined 0.6 percent. Maruti and Larsen & Toubro both fell half a percent. NTPC and SBI both slipped 0.4 percent.
In sectoral indices at the BSE, 12 sectors gained while eight declined. Consumer Durables gained 1.3 percent, the Reality sector rose 1.2 percent and Commodities added 0.8 percent.
On the other hand, the Energy sector fell 0.9 percent, Oil & Gas declined 0.7 percent and Capital Goods lost 0.6 percent.
The overall market breadth was positive as the shares of 2,018 companies appreciated while those of 1,701 companies declined. A total of 134 companies remain unchanged.
