India inclined to vote in favour of US-backed resolution against Lanka: PM

The Lok Sabha yesterday adopted the President's address to both the Houses after negating all opposition amendments by 226 in favour and 141 against in the division of voting. Replying to the three-day debate, the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh hoped that a consensus will emerge on the setting up of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, NCTC.

Referring to the issue of Sri Lankan Tamils, Dr Singh assured the House that New Delhi is inclined to vote in favour of the US-backed resolution against the Sri Lankan government for its violation of Human Rights at the on-going UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva.

The DMK President Mr. Karunanidhi welcomed the Prime Minister’s statement. Speaking to newsmen in Chennai yesterday, he said following the Prime Minister’s assurance in the Lok Sabha, the party had decided to call off the proposed one day fast on Thursday.
