After a dazzling opening ceremony last night, the events of the Commonwealth Games will begin from today. 20 medals will be up for grabs on day one, with India figuring in 10 of the 12 events. These are: Weightlifting, Badminton, Hockey, Table Tennis, Squash, Gymnastics, Lawn Ball, Judo, Cycling and Swimming.
In Weightlifting, Khumukcham Sanjita and Saikhom Mirabai Chanu will be seen in action in the Women's 48 kg division, while Sukhen Dey and Ganesh Mali will try their luck in the Men's 56kg category.
In Badminton, the Indian Mixed team will play it's first two Group matches today. It will meet Ghana, followed by a match with Uganda later in the night.
The Indian Women's Hockey team will take on Canada in it's preliminary Pool-A game. All India Radio will broadcast the live commentary on the match from 8:25 PM onwards. It can be heard on the FM Gold Network, Rajdhani and the National Channel.
In Squash, 4 Indians, including Saurav Ghosal, will play their preliminary matches today.
In Table Tennis, the Indian Men's team will clash with Vanuatu, while the Women's team will slug it out against Nigeria.
In Swimming, Sajan Prakash will represent India in the heats of the Men's 400 metre freestyle category, with Prasanta Karmakar featuring in the Men's Para-sport 100 metre freestyle section.
The 3-member Indian Women's team will feature in the Gymnastics Rythmic event.
Men's pair, Men's triples and Women's fours Lawn Ball events, besides Cycling and Judo, will also see India's participation today.
