India hoping for top three finish at Delhi games

Hosts India is hoping for a top three finish at the Delhi games. With the government reportedly spending a massive 800 crores for training in the last two years to prepare the atheletes for this mega event, expectations are running high that sportspersons will deliver this time, that too in the presence of the home crowd. In the last edition held in Melbourne , India had bagged a total of 49 including 22 gold. This time around with an young group of athletes developing into world beaters, expectations are that hosts India has the potential to finish as high as second in the games. Leading the pack of highly talented young guns eager to give their best include Abhinav bindra, Vijendra Singh, Akhil kumar, Saina Nehwal, , Sushil Kumar. Somdev Devvarman, Sania Mirza. AIR correspondent reports that Indians are likely to grab more of the yellow metals thanks to the inclusion of wrestling which was not included in the last games. A total of 272 gold medals are up for grabs in the 11 day event.
