India holding talks with member countries in international conference on biodiversity in Hyderabad

India is holding bilateral talks with the member countries to take the negotiation process forward in the ongoing international conference on biodiversity in Hyderabad. Indian Delegation led by Environment and Forests Minister Jayanthi Natarajan is holding talks over resource mobilization with almost each member country a day before conclusion of the CoP11 to achieve broad consensus on the issue.The Special Group set up to find ways and means for fund mobilization is also considering a New Document to sort out the differences of opinion between member countries. Differences of opinion arose between developed and developing countries over funds mobilization and the frame work to be adopted for resources to achieve global biodiversity targets by 2020.

The working groups have approved the Conference Reports on almost all agenda issues this evening for final adoption in the plenary meeting to be held tomorrow.

World Bank has stressed the need for mobilizing funds under Public and Private Partnerships and Community Action for biodiversity conservation to secure healthy eco-systems and improve livelihoods of people. Stating that enough public investments are not being made in the biodiversity conservation, World Bank Vice President for Sustainable Development, Rachel Kyte said new approaches are required to finance nature conservation efforts.
