India has potential to grow faster, job creation plans underway: Jaitley

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said India has potential to grow faster and plans are underway to reduce poverty and create jobs in rural areas. The Finance Minister, who is meeting top government officials and business leaders in London said India still has the potential to grow at a higher rate than today. A series of action is needed to reduce poverty in the rural areas. We have planned several programmes for rural India coupled with measures to create jobs. He said I don't see India becoming a cashless system immediately but I see India becoming less-cash economy. Jaitley said the GST regime would also make generation of cash more difficult, besides making the taxation system much more efficient. He hoped that the GST would be implemented by July 1. The Union Minister for Finance is in the UK to represent the Indian government at a special reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace to launch the UK-India Year of Culture. Jaitley is also scheduled to meet UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson before heading to the Palace. He will be meeting his British counterpart Chancellor Philip Hammond tomorrow. Jaitley is also scheduled to meet a series of investors and CEOs tomorrow at events organised by JP Morgan and Confederation of British Industry (CBI) before he leaves for India.
