India has huge responsibility to guide sinking economies: FM

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said that India should capitalize on the opportunities to substantiate its position at the time of global economic crisis. Addressing a seminar to mark the Golden Jublee celebrations of Indian Economics Services in New Delhi, Mr. Mukherjee said that India has a huge responsibility to guide the sinking economies at the time of global recession. He added that Indian economy is in a better position than many others because of its robust and strong base. The Finance Minister also said that the country can expect greater foreign investments in view of the higher returns for global investors by fast-tracking the pending reforms. Mr. Mukherjee said that currently government's priority is to strengthen the basic infrastructure and it can play a role of an enabler for the empowered industrial sector. He added that government is taking effective measures to create long-term funds to revamp the public infrastructure.
