Hailing the US decision to designate Indian Mujahideen as a foreign terrorist outfit, New Delhi has said, it recognises that the outfit has links with Pakistan based terrorist organisations Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, Jash-e-Mohammed and Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami.
In response to a question, an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said in New Delhi today that Indian Mujahideen is responsible for dozens of bomb attacks in India since 2005 and it also played a facilitative role in 2008 Mumbai terror attack carried out by LeT.
The spokesman said that the US decision reflects the shared commitment of the two countries to combat terrorism and further strengthen bilateral counter terrorism cooperation. This, the spokesman said, is an important component of India-US strategic partnership. The spokesman also said, this underscores the destructive agenda of these terror organizations with trans-regional links and operations.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton designated IM as a foreign terror outfit. This terrorist group has claimed responsibility for many terror attacks in India including the recent bomb blasts in Delhi and Mumbai.
