The second day of ongoing Syed Modi International India Grand Prix Gold Badminton Championship in Lucknow was full of surprises for many. An unseeded Indian shuttler Pratul Joshi stunned former world number one, Indonesian Taufiq Hidayat by defeating him in straight sets of 21-17 and 21-12 in a men's single match. In the other men's single match, Ajay Jayram of India defeated Russian Nikita Khakimov of Russia in straight sets by 21-15, 21-13. In his second match of the day, 4th seed Ajay Jayram defeated Indonesian Sukamta Evert by 21-09, 21-15.While Olympic bronze-medalist of India, Saina Nehwal retired from the match giving the game to her Russian rival K.Polikarpova after clinching first set by 21-17 in the women's single match. Due to some knee problem Saina had to retire. The second seed in the tournament, India's P Kashyap, defeated Korean Ha Young Woong by 21-18, 21-09 in men's singles. Teen sensation and 2nd seed in the women's singles, P.V Sindhu of India defeated Malaysian Li Liyan Young by 21-06, 21-12.
