India has gifted the former Indian Coast Guard Ship Varaha to Sri Lanka to help the island nation maintain maritime security in the region.<br/><br/>The official handing over ceremony took place at Colombo port last evening when Sri Lanka's Defence Secretary Mr BMUD Basunayake took charge of the ship from Indian High Commissioner Mr Y K Sinha in accordance with Naval customs and traditions.<br/><br/>The patrol ship, which is 75 metres in length and 11 metres in width, was provided by the Indian Government on a free dry lease to the Sri Lanka Navy in 2006.<br/><br/>It successfully served the Sri Lanka Navy for surveillance and other activities during this period.<br/><br/>
