India and Germany on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding for organising Year of Germany in India in 2011-12 and Year of India in Germany in 2012-13. The MoU to this effect was signed after the Foreign Ministers of the two countries held wide ranging discussions on enhancing stategic cooperation between the two countries. Official sources said that a coordinated strategy for a permanent seat at the UN Security Council for India and Germany was high on the agenda.External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle met for the first time in New Delhi after the two countries were elected as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council. Both the countries are aspiring to be at the high UN table. The two leaders discussed a host of other issues including climate change and international security apart from resolution of regional conflicts. Earlier in the morning the German Foreign Minister called on the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
