New Delhi is fully committed to take the Doha round of trade negotiations to a successful conclusion. Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma made this statement while interacting with media at the Brookings Institute, in Washington. He said India has been engaged with all the key countries and its partners in the developing countries on the issue. The minister said India hopes that other key interlocutors, particularly the United States of America will give strong support for the conclusion of the present round of negotiations. He said this will help in putting in place a global trade regime. Earlier in his Address at the Brookings Institute, he said Asia played major role in global economic recovery as many of the countries in the region, including India, never went into a full-blown recession as witnessed by the western countries. He said the rise of Asian and Latin American countries should be welcomed as they do not threaten the wealth and prosperity of anyone, but only seek to find their rightful place. The Minister said more than half of the global economic growth is coming from the developing countries. He added Asia will be a strong pillar in the multi-polar world as in the coming decade it is projected that three of the top five economies of the world would be from Asia.
