India and France have decided to enhance cooperation in Defence sector. Paris has agreed to provide technical expertise for modernizing Defence sector in India. This was disclosed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in his opening remarks to the joint press conference after the delegation level talks. The two countries have decided to enhance investment in education and culture and research and development areas. Dr. Singh said that India will open soon a cultural centre in Paris. He added that France will open a centre of excellence at IIT Rajasthan. Giving details of the discussions Dr. Singh said that the two sides discussed the important issues of terrorism and climate change. The situation in Pakistan, Myanmar and Iran also came up for review at the two countries decided to work together in the United Nations security council till India is a member of the council. He reiterated that France has consistently supporting India's bid for permanent membership of the UN Security Council.
