The Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution has formulated a Scheme for construction of storage godowns through private entrepreneurs under Public Private Partnership,PPP . Giving this information in the Rajya Sabha today, minister of state for agriculture Harish Rawat said under the scheme, the Food Corporation of India,FCI, would provide a guarantee of ten years for assured hiring to the private entrepreneurs.

It will also construct 20 lakh tonnes of storage capacity in silos, within the overall storage requirement of FCI, through PPP . Mr Rawat said that the government has also finalized a plan for construction of storage capacity of 151 lakh tonnes in 19 States under this scheme.

The minister said that his ministry is also implementing Grameen Bhandaran Yojna for creation of scientific storage capacity to meet out various requirement of farmers.
