India today said that all possible assistance will be provided to Indian filmmaker Vijay Kumar who was questioned allegedly for want of appropriate documentation in Canada. The External Affairs Ministry said in New Delhi that The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) has informed High Commission of India in Ottawa that Vijay Kumar is not under detention. The External Affairs Ministry said the Consulate General of India (CGI) in Vancouver is also in contact with CBSA and Baldev Singh Sandhu, Attorney of Vijay Kumar. It however said that citing ‘attorney-client relationship’ and Canadian Privacy laws, Sandho has declined to share any information about the status, location or plans of Vijay Kumar. The Consulate General of India has offered to provide all possible assistance, if required, to Sandhu.Forty year old Vijay Kumar flew to Vancouver from Houston where he was sentenced to 20 days in prison after being arrested for carrying brass knuckles and 'jihadi' literature in luggage.The filmmaker, a resident of Malad in Mumbai, was held at the Houston airport on August 20. He had been invited to Houston to participate in a Hindu organisation's conference.
