India expresses resolve to stand by emission commitments

India has expressed its resolve to stand by its commitments on emission intensity cuts by 20 to 25 per cent by the year 2020. Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh today said in New Delhi, this will be done without hampering country's economic growth .Ahead of the UN meet on Climate Change in Cancun this month-end, Ramesh said, targets will be improved.AIR correspondent reports, India's emission intensity has declined by 17.6 per cent between 1990 and 2005 while its energy intensity has been decreasing since 1980s. It is already in the same range as that of the least energy intensive countries in the world. According to a ministry report, it is estimated that India's per capita emissions in the year 2031 will be lower than the per capita global emission of GHG in the year 2005.
