India today said it is examining the details of the exemption granted to India by the US regarding the purchase of Iranian crude oil without attracting US sanctions. The US has imposed sanctions on Iran following its exit from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, commonly known as Iran nuclear deal. <br />''  <br />'' In reply to a media query, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, New Delhi appreciates that the US Government has taken into account its need for energy security and understood its sensitivities on this matter. <br />''  <br />'' Welcoming the US notification including India in the list of countries granted Significant Reduction Exemption for continued purchase of Iranian crude oil without attracting US sanctions, Mr Kumar said, India is a major importer of crude oil from Iran which is crucial for India's own energy security needs. <br />''  <br />'' Mr Kumar said, India also appreciates the fact that US has shown understanding of its position and have said that their intention is not to hurt India. <br />''  <br />'' On the US exemption from sanctions for Chabahar Port, he said, India has taken note of the US statement that exception has been provided under the Iran Freedom and Counter-Proliferation Act of 2012 with respect to the development of Chabahar Port and the construction of an associated railway line. <br />''  <br />'' He expressed satisfaction that the US recognized the role which Chabahar Port will play to bring strategic and long-term benefits to Afghanistan as well as enhance Afghanistan's connectivity with the outside world.<br />'' <br />
