The 12th India-European Union Summit is being held in New Delhi on Friday. EU will be represented by President of the European Council, Mr. Herman Van Rompuy and President of the European Commission, Mr. Jose Manuel Barroso and India by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
This will be first India-EU Summit held in India after the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty of the European Union in 2009. India-EU Summits are held annually alternatively in India and Europe.
Our Correspondent reports that India-EU relations have grown exponentially from what used to be mostly a trade and economic issues driven relationship to one covering all areas of interaction. The two sides have agreed on a Strategic Partnership and adopted a Joint Action Plan.
Today, relations between India and the EU cover a wide range of subjects of economic or political significance including trade, energy, infrastructure, science and technology, human rights, counter-terrorism, counter-piracy, cyber-security, information technology, nuclear research, transport, agriculture, culture, education etc.
