India has doubled the cess on coal to promote clean energy. Minister of Environment and Forest Prakash Javadekar said that the government's move is aimed at collecting more funds in the central corpus earmarked for clean energy and cross subsidising solar and other renewable energy sources. Addressing the 18th ministerial meeting of Brazil, South Africa, Indian and China, in New Delhi today, Mr. Javadekar said India is committed to sustainable development and efficient use of all resources inculding new and renewable energy.
