India donates 2000 bicycles to needy girls in Nepal

India has donated 2,000 bicycles to needy girls in Nepal as part of a program that aims to encourage school enrollment and increase the youth literacy rate. In an official statement, Indian Embassy said, bicycles were given away to poor girls studying in different government schools in Nepal. The program was initiated by the Indian government under its Small Development Project scheme to stop poor Nepali girls from dropping out of schools and to enhance literacy. According to Unicef, literacy rates in Nepal are low, the total adult literacy rate in the country in 2008-2012 was 57.4 percent.<br/><br/>Apart from this, India has been providing assistance to various government programs for the improvement of education and health services across Nepal. India has also granted 59 ambulances, 7 buses and one eye care van to four Nepal districts to serve the medical and educational needs of the local people.
