India's day of dominance continued in Bangalore, where M Vijay brought up his first Test century after Sachin Tendulkar compiled his 49th. Australia's bowlers were visibly deflated at tea, having failed to claim a wicket during the first two sessions as Tendulkar and Vijay cruised, taking their partnership to 276.Australia's strong first innings meant they still held a 164-run lead, but it was rapidly dwindling as the bowlers failed to create any serious worries for either batsman. The first session belonged to Tendulkar, who brought up his hundred with a pair of slog-swept sixes off Nathan Hauritz, but after lunch the focus switched to his younger partner.Vijay had seen the ease with which Tendulkar raced through the nineties but found it was not so simple for himself. The Australians crowded Vijay once he reached 99 and a short-pitched attack from Peter George kept the scoreboard quiet, but after more than 20 minutes without a run, Vijay nudged a quick single to cover to achieve his goal.He leapt for joy at his milestone, which came nearly two years after his debut, and was embraced by Tendulkar, whose own century celebrations had been rather more understated. It was understandable; Tendulkar has raised his bat for reaching triple-figures seven times in the past year alone.Vijay's placement was sublime on both sides of the wicket as he found gaps along the ground and occasionally went over the top against a less-than-threatening Hauritz. However, he did have two nervous moments, including an lbw appeal from Ben Hilfenhaus that could easily have been given straight after lunch.Australia's only other sniff of success for the day came when Vijay was on 49, pushed to cover and hared off for a single only to be sent back by Tendulkar. Hauritz collected the ball and fired well wide of the wicketkeeper Tim Paine; had he simply lobbed the ball to Paine it would almost certainly have been the end for Vijay.Tendulkar, on the other hand, offered no chances. A day after he rewrote the record books with his 14,000th Test run, he continued to break new ground by moving within touching distance of a 50th Test century. Given the ease with which he handled all the Australian bowlers, it was fitting that Tendulkar raised his hundred by depositing Hauritz into the crowd over long-on. A similar six had taken him to 99.Tendulkar and Vijay began the day on similar scores but the veteran powered ahead to bring up his hundred before lunch from his 157th delivery. He played with the kind of confidence that could not help but rub off on his team-mates.His day began with two boundaries down the leg side off Hauritz's opening deliveries, and things only got better for the leading run scorer in Test history. He pulled Mitchell Johnson for consecutive fours, sliced Shane Watson over cover with ease and kept Ponting scratching his head for answers; the Australian captain had used seven bowlers by tea.Hilfenhaus was easily the standout in Australia's attack and was unlucky not to have Vijay lbw. But Hauritz served up easy pickings for Vijay and Tendulkar and had leaked 115 runs by the second break of the day, while Johnson sprayed a few too many deliveries wide of the batsmen.
