India display their best ever performance in Commonwealth Games

At the Commonwealth Games, Tuesday was another glorious day for India. With two more Golds, India display their best ever performance in Commonwealth Games. Win Women's 4 into 400 meters relay and pairs 10 meters Air Pistol event. Star Shuttler Saina Nehwal storms into the Women's Singles final in Badminton and in Men's Hockey, India make their maiden final in the games. 29 Gold medals up for grabs today. History was created when the host athletes won their first medals on the track since the legendary Milkha Singh won Gold more than half a century ago. The Women’s 4 into 400 meters relay quartet grabbed the second athletic Gold for India, after the 52-year old Gold medal drought in athletics was broken by Krishna Poonia with Gold in the Women's discus throw on Monday. The quartet comprising Manjeet Kaur, Sini Jose, Ashwini Akkunji and Mandeep Kaur ran a blistering race to cross the line first in 3 minutes, 27.77 seconds. In the 4 into 100 meters Women's relay, India’s Geetha Satti, Srabani Nanda, Priya P.K. and Jyoti Manjunath won the Bronze clocking 45.25 seconds. Complimenting their female counterparts, India's Rahamutulla Molla, Suresh Sathya, Shameer Mon Manzile and Mohammad Abdul Qureshi clocked 38.39 seconds to win another Bronze in Men's 4 into 100 meters. In the men's triple jump finals, India's Renjith Maheshwary stood third to bag a Bronze with a new national record jump of 17.07 meters. Javelin thrower Kashinath Naik added the fourth Bronze with a throw of 74. 29 meters to make it a fabulous day in track and field events for the hosts. Earlier, the Women shooting pair Heena Sidhu and Annu Raj Singh grabbed the Gold in 10 metre air pistol to open the medal harvest on the ninth day of competitions. It was also the 14th Gold won by India in shooting. Melbourne Commonwealth Games' best athlete, Samresh Jung won his first medal of the Delhi Games, when he and his partner C K Chaudhary took the Silver in the Men's 25 standard fire pistol. World champion Tejaswini Sawant captured the Silver in Women's 50 metre prone event. With just two days to go before the Games comes to an end on Thursday, the hosts are in the second spot in the medals tally with a haul of 32 Gold, 25 Silver and 32 Bronze. Australia is holding the top spot with a rich haul of 68 Gold, 45 Silver and 40 Bronze. England is third with 30 Gold, 50 Silver and 41 Bronze.In Men's Hockey, India made their maiden Commonwealth Games final by beating England on penalties.In Badminton, India's Saina Nehwal reached the final with a straight game victory over Scotland's Susan Egelstaff.
