India has strongly denounced the racist remarks by Newzealand by a media commentator against the Delhi Chief Minister Mrs. Sheila Dixit. The High Commissioner of Newzealand was called in the Ministry of External Affairs and a strong demarche was issued to him regarding the matter. Describing the remarks as totally unacceptable, an External Affairs Ministry said that it is shocking that such bigoted views have been aired by the representatives of a mainstream media organisation of a multiethnic democracy like New Zealand. New Delhi hoped that New Zealand will take immediate demonstrative action against the individual involved to send out a clear signal that such behaviour is totally unacceptable. The Indian High Commissioner in New Zealand has also taken up the matter with the government there. The High Commissioner of New Zealand while conveying deep regret characterised the remarks as culturally insensitive, inappropriate and vulgar and made it very clear that these are not the views of his government.
