India and Denmark will set up a Joint Working group to enhance cooperation in Maritime and Shipping Sector. This decision came after Danish Minister for Economy and Business Affairs called upon Shipping Minister G K Vasan in New Delhi today. Both the countries stressed the need for taking counter measures against piracy and armed robbery off the coast of Somalia. Mr. Vasan informed that his Ministry is in discussion with Ministry of External Affairs and Defence Ministry to take up a multi pronged approach to deal with the problem of piracy and armed robbery off the coast of Somalia through increased presence of the Navy. The two Ministers also discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation in Shipping and Maritime Sector along with exploring possibilities for cooperation in the areas of Ship Designing, Maritime Training & Education, Off-shore Wind Energy and Green House Gas Emissions. Challenges facing the shipping industry and investment possibilities also figured in the talks.
