Sri Lanka has said that India could collaborate in the development of three major ports in the island nation. Ports and Shipping Minister Arjuna Ranatunga said during an event that India could collaborate for development of ports at Colombo, Trincomalee and Kankesanthurai in Sri Lanka. <br/><br/>He said seventy-five per cent of the trans-shipment from Sri Lanka goes to India and India is looking at getting a stake in Colombo port. The minister said his government is looking at an Asian subcontinent investor to invest and take over the East Container Terminal of Colombo port in private-public partnership mode. <br/><br/>Mr. Ranatunga said that India is also very keen on Trincomalee Port, located in the east coast and touted as the fifth-largest natural harbor in the world. The minister said Sri Lanka is also looking to develop the Kankesanthurai port in the north as it is quite close to India.<br/><br/>His statement came amidst Sri Lankan government's attempt to balance ties between India and China. China has already got majority control in two major ports at Colombo and Hambantota.
