India has conveyed its commitment to achieving the full potential of its relationship with Maldives in line with India's Neighbourhood First policy. <br/><br/>External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met the visiting Special Envoy of the President of Maldives and Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Asim in new Delhi today and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relationship. <br/><br/>In a statement, MEA said, discussions centred around strengthening of the development partnership between India and Maldives and enhancing defence and security cooperation<br/><br/>Special Envoy Asim also called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence. They discussed the ties between India and Maldives as close neighbours bound by shared history, culture and maritime interests in the Indian Ocean. <br/><br/>Special Envoy Asim reiterated the commitment of Maldives to maintain close relations with India under Maldives' "India First" policy. Prime Minister Modi affirmed that India would always be a reliable and close neighbour of Maldives supporting it in its progress and security.
