India has strongly condemned the threat by a pastor in the US to burn the copies of holy Quran on the anniversary of 9/11 terror attack in New York. The Home Minister Mr. Chidambaram said that such an act is calculated to increase strife between different religious groups. He also called on the US authorities to take strong action to prevent such an outrage from being committed. Mr. Chidambaram appealed to the Indian media to help in the efforts in maintaining communal harmony in view of the threats by the pastor. Mr. Chidambaram said, that no-one who is interested in maintaining harmony and peace among different sections of the people can condone such action. Besides the US authorities, religious and political leaders all over the world have also condemned his proposed action warning of adverse fallout. The threat has been made by the pastor of a small church in Florida.
