India committed to efforts to achieve gender equality: Puri

India today said it is committed to working with the United Nations' body on women empowerment in its efforts to achieve gender equality and asked nations to extend their financial support to it.

Addressing a session of UN Women in Washington, India's Permanent Representative to the UN Hardeep Singh Puri said India is steadfast in its commitment to the global, regional and national efforts to achieve gender equality, empowerment of women and gender mainstreaming.

India has pledged five million dollars to UN Women as part of its commitment to the cause and will contribute another one million dollars in the coming days.
