Indian and Chinese officials will discuss border and other issues in New Delhi today. The special representatives of the two sides also held extensive discussions on a host of issues on Monday.
Ahead of talks the Chinese State Councillor Dai Bingguo has rejected rivalry between the two countries and predicted a golden period for India-China relations in days to come. Dai and National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon, who are special representatives of the two countries for boundary talks, are holding negotiations to firm up a framework for delineating the border on the map. They are expected to work out the details of an accord on the border mechanism that is likely to be signed at the end of the talks.
The decision to set up the border mechanism was taken at a meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at Sanya in April 2011. This is the 15th round of boundary talks between special representatives of the two countries that was set up in 2003 to resolve the boundary issue.
