India, China sign six pacts to strengthen strategic partnership

India and China today signed six pacts to strengthen strategic bilateral partnership. The agreements and MOUs are in the fields of green technologies, cultural exchange, media exchanges, hydrological data exchange and banking. The business leaders of the two countries have already finalised deals worth 16 billion US dollars. The agreements were signed after the delegation level talks between the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao.He is accompanied by a high level official delegation and about 400 strong business contingent. In their opening statements the two leaders asserted that the visit will give a new impetus to the bilateral strategic partnership between the two countries. While the Chinese premier Wen Jiabao said, his visit will impart new dimensions to the strategic partnership that began five years ago, Dr. Singh said that the intensity of ties can be gauged from the fact that he met top chinese leadership in the last five years around 20 times. Dr. Singh also said this will help bring peace and prosperity to Asia and the world. He added that he was personally touched by Mr. Wen's visit to Indian pavalion at Shanghai Expo and extended special thanks to him. Speaking to reporters after he was accorded ceremonial reception at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan this morning, Mr. Wen Jiabao said that the two countries can reach important strategic consensus for deepening friendship and expanding bilateral partnership for peace and prosperity of the two countries. He also advocated for enhanced people to people contact.
