India, China sign 12 agreements to expand bilateral cooperation

India and China on Thursday signed twelve agreements for expanding cooperation in trade and commerce, railways, health and culture.

The agreements were signed after delegation level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in New Delhi.

An MoU to open another route for Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage through Nathula in Sikkim was also inked.

It will help reduce hardship and journey time to reach the holy place. The other pacts included cooperation in audio visual co-production and establishing sister-city relationship between Mumbai and Shanghai.

An agreement envisaging investment of 20 billion dollar by China in India during next five years was also signed. India and China also decided to begin the process of discussion for cooperation in civil nuclear energy sector.

This announcement came within a fortnight of India inking a deal to buy uranium from Australia.
