‘India-China need to promote mutual political trust, economic and trade ties: Zhou Yongkang

The External Affairs Minister Mr. S. M. Krishna says, India and China should leverage their strengths while being sensitive to each others concerns. This he said, will help in realising the true potential of the bilateral ties.Speaking at a seminar to mark sixty years of diplomatic relations between the two countries in New Delhi, Mr. Krishna however, added that the divergece of views between the two sides is often exaggerated. He noted that the two countries should not just cooperate but must be seen doing so in the rest of the world.Observing that the bilateral ties were grossly under utilised, Mr. Krishna said, it is important to address the issues of bilateral concern so that the relationship realises its true potential for building a common future in this Asian century.Mr. Krishna asserted that two countries could benefit from closer cooperation as they are facing similar challenges. He said, the Hotline between Indian and Chinese Prime Ministers will be soon operational. He added that Beijing will provide level-playing field to Indian companies especially in Pharma and IT sector where we face barriers restricting market access. Mr. Krishana said India will offer a warm welcome to Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao when he visits India in December.Speaking at the seminar Chinese Communist Party Politburo member Zhou Yongkang said that India's development is not a threat but an opportunity for China and the two sides should work together to further cement their strategic and cooperative partnership. Pointing out that the two countries are more interdependent on each other for global stability, Yangkong said,in light of such a situation, it is all more necessary for China and India to handle our relationship from a strategic height and long-term perspective.Observing that Chinese government policies advocated peaceful relations with India, Yongkang said the two countries should promote mutual political trust, economic and trade ties, expand friendly ties and strengthen international cooperation for further development of Sino-Indian relations.The seminar was organised jointly by Congress and Communist Party of China to mark 60 years of diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
