India and China today held their first strategic dialogue in Beijing to shore up bilateral ties. In his opening remarks at the dialogue, Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar said, the relations between the two countries have really acquired a very steady momentum over many years. He said, India have truly transcended the bilateral dimension of relations and what happens between both nations has great global and regional significance. <br/><br/>Mr Jaishankar said, the leadership level meetings of India and China have been taking place regularly and economic engagement is growing. He said, border areas of both the countries have maintained peace and tranquility. China's Executive Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui said, Beijing expect to discuss the full range of issues that are important to both the countries.<br/><br/>Earlier, Mr Jaishankar called on Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. He said, China has very strong, principled position on counter-terrorism, and both New Delhi and Beijing should make special efforts on counter-terrorism together. Mr Jaishankar's visit to China comes in the backdrop of differences between the two countries over issues like India's Nuclear Suppliers Group bid and China blocking efforts to get Jaish-e-Mohammed Chief Masood Azhar banned by the United Nations.
