India, China express desire to expand strategic co-operation in Asia-Pacific region

India told China that it sees improving bilateral ties as a priority of its foreign policy and expressed desire to expand strategic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.

Conveying a message about India's intention to firm up ties with China, visiting External Affairs Minister S M Krishna told Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang that it is important for both the countries to build trust and understanding to maintain strong and healthy relationship.

Mr. Krishna held a meeting with Chinese Vice Premier Li Kaqiang in Beijing yesterday. After the meeting, Li said, this was an important opportunity to enhance the bilateral relations.

Mr. Krishna is scheduled to meet Chinese Foreign Minister, Yang Jeichi today. The External Affairs Minister is in Beijing to take part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organistion summit.
