India carries out successful user trial of Advanced Air Defence Interceptor Missile

India today carried out yet another successful user-trial of the Advanced Air Defence Interceptor from the Wheeler Island in Odisha.

The user-trial, the second this year, was conducted at around 12.55 p.m today from the Launch complex-4 in the Wheeler island near Dhamra, about 70 km from Bhadrak.

Senior DRDO and defence scientists and officials were present on the occasion to oversee the country’s defence test-operation.

The 7.5 meter long indigenous interceptor successfully hit the mid-air target fired from the Wheeler island, off the Odisha coast at the height of 15 kilometers from the ground.

Advanced air defence intercepter missile is a part of India's anti-ballistic missile programme aimed protecting India from ballistic missle attacks.

Our correspondent reports that the user-trial of the interceptor unfolded when a modified version of the medium-range Prithvi missile was launched from a mobile launcher from the Launch complex no. 3 of the ITR in Chandipur at around 12.52 pm.

Barely 3 minutes after it, the interceptor was launched from the Launch complex no 4 in the Wheeler Island at around 12.55 pm, targeting the dummy as the enemy’s missile.

As was aimed at, the radar-guided Interceptor successfully intercepted the dummy missile, much to the contentment of the scientists and the defence officials.

This user trial of the interceptor, doubtless, put yet another signature of certification on the defence prowess of the country.
