A number of pacts, including one in the field of civil nuclear cooperation, are expected to be signed on Tuesday between India and Canada. An MoU on culture is also expected to be signed after the delegation level talks The two countries are also expected to announce launch of feasibility study for a Free Trade Agreement when the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh meets his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper for the delegation-level talks. The visiting Prime Minister has a busy schedule. The focus is to give a push to the trade between the two countries. It is at present five billion US dollars, which is much below the actual potential. Both the countries are interested in enhancing their ties in the field of agriculture, mining and infrastructure. Setting the tone foe expanding the business ties, Mr. Harper held detailed discussions with the captains of industry in Mumbai. The present visit of the Canadian Prime Minister is bound to take the strategic cooperation to a new high.Mr. Harper has a busy schedule.He called on the President to exchange views on the issues of mutual interest. The External Affairs Minister, Mr. S.M. Krishna also met the visiting dignitary and held discussions on regional and global issues. He will call on the Vice President and UPA Chairperson, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and the leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Mr. L.K. Advani will hold discussions with him on a host of issues of mutual interest. During his stay in India, he will also visit Akshardham Temple in Delhi and Golden Temple in Amritsar.
