India, Canada agree to operationalise civil nuclear cooperation pact

India and Canada today concluded negotiations on operationalising the bilateral Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement signed in 2010 in Toronto. This was announced at a joint press conference by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and the visiting Canadian Harper counterpart Stephen after holding talks at Hyderabad House in New Delhi this evening. Our correspondent reports, the conclusion of negotiations will enable Canadian firms to export uranium and nuclear reactors to India.

Three more pacts were inked after the delgation level talks. They include one agreement and two MoUs to strengthen cooperation in the areas of social security, information and communication technology and Defence cooperation in Research and Development.

Speaking after talks Prime Minister Manmohan Singh appreciated the progress made towards completing the modalities for operationlisation of civil nuclear agreement signed in Toronto.
Prime minister Manmohan Singh said, the two sides had a comprehensive review of their wide ranging partnership and agreed to institute a strategic Dialogue at the level of foreign ministers. India hopes for Canadian investments and both also agreed to coperate for stability of the global financial system. Prime minister Manmohan said both countries also agreed to conclude a Comprehensive Economic partnership Agreement by next year.

Referring to the progress on Civil nuclear corporation Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said, Canada will allow export of Uranium to India.
