India calls for permanent solution to climate change problem

India has called for a permanent solution to address the problem of climate change across the globe. Addressing the International Conference on Climate Change, Sustainable Agriculture and Public Leadership in New Delhi today, Minister of State for Agriculture Harish Rawat said that due to adverse climatic conditions, agriculture across the world is severely affected. He said there is sharp reduction in the quantity and quality of food grains, crops, fisheries and horticulture due to bad weather conditions. Mr. Rawat said, to ensure food security, it is necessary to deal with the menace of climate change.

The Minister said according to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC, and World Meteorological organization, climate change can adversely impact global environment, agricultural productivity and the quality of human life. Expressing concern over the low profitability and productivity in the agriculture sector in the country, the Minister said climate change is the main cause for these developments. He urged the countries to join hands to fight with this problem. Our correspondent reports that representatives from 10 countries are participating in this three day conference.
