India calls for immediate de-escalation of Gaza conflict

India has demanded an immediate de-escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, saying the use of disproportionate force is completely unacceptable.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid urged that peace must be restored at the earliest.

Mr Khurshid pledged India’s categorical support to any efforts towards achieving peace.

Mr Khurshid also reaffirmed India’s commitment to an independent state of Palestine.
