India builds 16,000 houses in NE Sri Lanka for war displaced persons in 2015

India built 16,000 houses in the civil war ravaged North and East Sri Lanka for the war displaced persons in the calendar year 2015.<br/><br/>The houses are being built under the Rs. 1500 crore Indian Housing Project that has the target to build 50,000 houses in the country.<br/>The project was announced in 2010 and so far 43, 800 houses have been successfully completed and handed over to the beneficiaries under the project.<br/>2,000 more houses in the North will be completed within the next few months, while construction work on the four thousand houses for the plantation workers in the Central parts of the country will start soon.<br/>According to the Indian High Commission in Colombo, the project is being implemented in close consultation with Sri Lankan Government and other stake-holders.
