In the ICC Cricket World Cup, Team India today registered an emphatic 130-run victory over South Africa to consolidate its position at the top of Pool-B. AIR correspondent reports that after a scintillating batting display, decorated by Shikhar Dhawan's century, Indian bowlers showcased a powerful performance to help the defending champions record their second consecutive triumph of this World Cup. The Correspondent reports:"Never having won against the Proteas at this biggest stage of 50-over cricket, Team India today entered the Melbourne Cricket Ground knowing that they will have to produce something magical to outplay AB DeVilliers' men, which they did. After Rohit Sharma's early run-out, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli played cautiously, and soon the steady start turned into a flurry of boundaries. Dhawan lost Kohli, but then partnered with Ajinkya Rahane to continue from where he left against Pakistan. He slammed 137, highest ever by a batsmen against South Africa in World Cups, anchoring India to compile 307. India was bang on with the ball as well, as they took wickets at quick intervals. Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock went back early, but the run-out of DeVilliers was the real game changer. Faf Du Plessis, who made 55, soon followed, after which the South African wickets fell like a pack of cards, with R. Ashwin being the main architect. He claimed 3 wickets as South Africa were skittled out for 177 in 40.2 overs. Dhawan was adjudged man of the match.
