Prime Minister Narendra Modi today signed a bilateral agreement on the cooperation in field of environment with Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff. An official source said that the agreement has come into effect due to deep concern of the both countries for the global environment and their shared interest in its conservation for the well being of future generations. Both the countries have agreed to cooperate in the field of climate change, bio- diversity with attention to Nagoya Protocol on access to genetic resources and their utilization. Both the countries have also agreed to exchange the information and documentation and visits by experts. The agreement will also look into afforestation in arid areas, water conservation and protection of wetlands, use of bio fuels and use of medicinal plant products among other things.
AIR correspondent reports that an agreement was also made on this occasion between India and Brazil establishing cooperation in augmentation of a Brazilian earth Station for receiving and processing data from Indian remote sensing satellites. A MOU was also signed between foreign ministries of the two countries for the consultation mechanism on consular and mobility issues.
