India, Bhutan express desire to further promote trade and investment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed India's continued commitment to capacity building especially in the education and information technology sectors in Bhutan.

In a joint statement issued at Thimphu after the ending of his two-day visit to Bhutan both the countries have agreed to continue with their close coordination and cooperation with each other on the issues relating to their national interests. India has conveyed its decision to exempt Bhutan from any ban or quantitative restrictions on export of milk powder Wheat Edible oil Pulses and Non basmati rice. In the joint statement both countries have expressed their desire to further promote trade and investment. They have also agreed not to allow each other’s territory to be used for interests inimical to the other.

In the joint statement it has also been said that visit of Mr. Modi further strengthen the close bonds of friendship and cooperation between two countries. The two sides acknowledge the importance of their cooperation and mutual benefit arising from the hydro power sector and they have reiterated their commitment to achieving the 10000 MW target.

AIR correspondent covering the PM visit reports that Narendra Modi has returned to Delhi after completion of his two-day successful journey to Thimphu. Prime Minister Bhutan Tshering Tobgay and his most of the cabinet colleagues had come all along from Thimphu to Paro to seen of the Indian Prime Minister. Mr. Modi was given a very grand departure by the local residents. A human wall of students girls and boys and local residents was created on about 40 Km long distance from Thimphu to Paro International air port. Mr. Modi step down at two places in the route to meet the students and people cheering to him and waving Indian flags. He also walked with them.
