India and Bermuda have signed a Tax Information Exchange Agreement-TIEA. The agreement, which is based on international standard of transparency, is the first such pact signed between the two countries. Under the agreement, the information is to be treated as secret and can be disclosed only to specified persons or authorities, either the tax authorities or oversight body. There is a specific provision for providing banking and ownership information and allowing exchange of past information on criminal tax matters.
