India beats England by 9 wickets in the Ahmedabad Cricket Test

India broke through England's resistance with a morning burst of 5 wickets by surging to a comprehensive 9 wickets victory in the opening Test at Motera in Ahemdabad today. India now lead 1-0 in the 4 match series. Needing 77 runs to record their first win at this venue in 7 years, India achieved the target when they made 80 for the loss of one wicket in 15.3 overs after lunch with more than half-a-day to spare. Pujara opening the innings in the absence of Gautam Gambhir, hastened victory with unbeaten 41 off 51 balls while Virender Sehwag hit 25 off 21 balls. Earlier England were all out for 406 at lunch in their second innings. Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha took four wickets including that of captain Alastair Cook and Matt Prior, Yadav three, Zahir 2 and Ashwin one. Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has credited the bowlers for the victory over England given the pitch condition.
