Team India continued their superb all-round performance in the Caribbean as they defeated the West Indies by 4 wickets in the first one day international cricket match at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad on Monday. Opting to bat, the West Indies got off to a nervy start but it was the fourth wicket stand of 82 runs between Ramnaresh Sarwan and Marlon Samuels that steadied the Windies ship. Both scored battling half centuries as the hosts managed to amass a modest 214 in their stipulated overs. Harbhajan Singh bagged three wickets. In reply, the tourists after losing 3 early wickets perfumed supremacy as Skipper Suresh Raina and man of the match Rohit Sharma, shared 80 runs for the fifth wicket, anchoring India to surpass the total in the 45th over. Rohit Sharma made an unbeaten 68 and at the top Shikhar Dhawan chipped in with a handy 51. The second ODI of this five-match series will be played at Port of Spain tomorrow.
