India defeated West Indies by an innings and 51 runs in the first Cricket Test at Kolkata, to take an unassailable 1-0 lead in the 2-match series. Resuming the third day on Friday at the overnight score of 354 for 6, the host posted 453, in reply to West Indies&apos; first innings score of 234. Debutant Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant 177, ably supported by R. Ashwin who scored 124. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar made 10. Trailing by 219 runs in the second innings, the West Indies were dismissed for 168. Paceman Mohammed Shami, who bagged 4 wickets in the first innings, took 5 in the second. Ashwin scalped 3 wickets. Rohit Sharma was adjudged man of the match.The Second Test, which will be Tendulkar&apos;s last international match, will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from 14th of this month.
